Tesamorelin is a synthetic peptide built from 44 amino acids and classified with the growth hormone–releasing hormone family. Its sequence corresponds to the human GHRH(1-44) backbone, carrying one structural change at the amino terminus. That change is a trans-3-hexenoyl group placed where the natural peptide would have an unmodified end. The modification is the feature that separates the compound from the endogenous hormone in name, in stability, and in how it is handled in the laboratory.
The hexenoyl cap slows the enzyme step that trims the amino terminus of native GHRH, the same step that shortens its active lifetime in circulation. As a result, the modified peptide persists longer in plasma than the unmodified hormone in side-by-side comparison. Receptor activity stays broadly comparable, because the added group sits away from the residues that contact the binding site. This combination, preserved receptor activity with reduced degradation, explains why the analog was developed instead of the native sequence.

Clinical investigation has focused on HIV-associated lipodystrophy, a condition in which antiretroviral therapy contributes to abnormal fat distribution. Excess visceral adipose tissue accumulates in the abdomen while peripheral fat may be lost. Tesamorelin was evaluated for reducing this visceral fat depot, with trials measuring changes in abdominal fat by imaging rather than by body weight alone. The rationale rests on the known lipolytic effects of growth hormone. Effects on visceral fat are documented, while long-term outcomes regarding cardiovascular risk remain less clearly established.
Tesamorelin is a synthetic peptide analog of growth hormone-releasing hormone, composed of 44 amino acids. It was designed to retain the biological activity of the native hormone while resisting rapid enzymatic degradation. The compound is classified as a growth hormone secretagogue and belongs to the broader family of hypothalamic releasing factors. In research and clinical settings, it is studied for its ability to stimulate pituitary growth hormone release. Its structure includes a modification at the N-terminus that contributes to an extended half-life relative to native growth hormone-releasing hormone.
Tesamorelin binds to growth hormone-releasing hormone receptors on the surface of pituitary somatotroph cells. This binding activates adenylate cyclase, raising intracellular cyclic AMP levels and triggering the release of growth hormone into circulation. The elevated growth hormone then stimulates hepatic production of insulin-like growth factor 1. Because the effect is mediated through the endogenous axis, secretion remains subject to feedback regulation. This distinguishes it from direct growth hormone administration, which bypasses pituitary control entirely.
=== Pharmacodynamics === Relative to other benzodiazepines, lorazepam is thought to have a high affinity for GABA receptors, which may also explain its marked amnesic effects. Its main pharmacological effects are the enhancement of the effects of the neurotransmitter GABA at the GABAA receptor. Benzodiazepines, such as lorazepam, enhance the effects of GABA at the GABAA receptor via increasing the frequency of opening of the chloride ion channel on the GABAA receptors; which results in the therapeutic actions of benzodiazepines. They, however, do not on their own activate the GABAA receptors but require the neurotransmitter GABA to be present. Thus, the effect of benzodiazepines is to enhance the effects of the neurotransmitter GABA. The magnitude and duration of lorazepam effects are dose-related, meaning larger doses have stronger and longer-lasting effects, because the brain has spare benzodiazepine drug receptor capacity, with single, clinical doses leading only to an occupancy of some 3% of the available receptors.
In 2001, Otto Reich, a hardline Republican Anti-Castro Cuban-born exile in the United States, who had formerly been involved in the Iran–Contra affair, was at the time the Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs. He approached Marc Wachtenheim from the Pan American Development Foundation, a subcontractor for the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), to hatch a development program to reopen Cuba, and then developed a covert influence campaign that might lead to conditions that could foment revolution there. They decided that because Freemasonry had been so present in Cuban society, to cultivate the Grand Lodge of Cuba. In 2001, Marc Wachtenheim brought Grand Master Collera Venta to Washington, D.C. to meet with Otto Reich. The staff of the United States Interests Section in Havana were well aware of the fact that Grand Master Collera Venta was a Cuban counterintelligence officer at the State Security Unit (DSE) (Spanish: Departamento de Seguridad del Estado) who went by the codename Agente Gerardo, and had been a spy for over 25 years. They did not share this information with USAID, nor any of their subcontractors, because the subcontractors didn't share their own plans with the Interests Section. The greater staff of the US diplomatic mission in Havana were aware of Collera Venta's true employment by 2007 – but they still did not inform USAID. Collera Venta later told CNN: "My job was to discover and neutralize these plans against my country."
== Research == There are various studies researching the concept of the wounded healer, most notably that by British counselor and psychotherapist Alison Barr who studied the significance of psychological wounds on people who decide to train as counsellors or psychotherapists. Barr used a pluralistic approach to her research, with the quantitative data analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics and the qualitative data analyzed using thematic analysis, with a grounded theory approach. An on-line questionnaire was conducted with 253 respondents. Pilot and verification studies were performed, and opportunities for further research highlighted. Barr’s results showed that 73.9% of counselors and psychotherapists have experienced one or more wounding experiences leading to career choice. She also noted the following:
During the synthesis of acetalated dextran both acyclic and cyclic acetals are formed. The acyclic acetals degrade into an acetone and an alcohol, whereas cyclic acetals degrade into acetone. The ratio of cyclic to acyclic acetals varies with reaction time since acyclic acetals are kinetically favored and cyclic acetals are the thermodynamically favored. This unique formation of cyclic and acyclic acetals leads to varying degradation time because the two acetal groups hydrolyze at different rates. Acetalated dextran's degradation time can vary from hours to a month or more at pH 7.2. Also, acetalated dextran is unique because it is acid sensitive. Therefore, at lower pH acetalated dextran degrades more rapidly, which results in a polymer that degrades approximately two logs faster at pH 5 compared to pH 7. The acid-sensitivity of Ac-DEX has illustrated, when formulated into nanoparticles encapsulating a protein antigen, more efficient presentation of antigen to both MHC class I and MHC class II, over other non-acid sensitive polymers like PLGA and non degradable materials like gold nanoparticles.

Surface-supplied diving equipment (SSDE) is the equipment required for surface-supplied diving. The essential aspect of surface-supplied diving is that breathing gas is supplied from the surface, either from a specialised diving compressor, high-pressure gas storage cylinders, or both. In commercial and military surface-supplied diving, a backup source of surface-supplied breathing gas should always be present in case the primary supply fails. The diver may also wear a bailout cylinder (emergency gas supply) which can provide self-contained breathing gas in an emergency. Thus, the surface-supplied diver is less likely to have an "out-of-air" emergency than a scuba diver using a single gas supply, as there are normally two alternative breathing gas sources available. Surface-supplied diving equipment usually includes communication capability with the surface, which improves the safety and efficiency of the working diver. The equipment needed for surface supplied diving can be broadly grouped as diving and support equipment, but the distinction is not always clear. Diving support equipment is equipment used to facilitate a diving operation. It is either not taken into the water during the dive, such as the gas panel and compressor, or is not integral to the actual diving, being there to make the dive easier or safer, such as a surface decompression chamber. Some equipment, like a diving stage, is not easily categorised as diving or support equipment, and may be considered as either.
== Usage == AUFS is an arbitrary unit of the maximum ultraviolet or visible light absorbance intensity measured by a detector. It can be used in chemical analysis to quantify components in a mixture, as each component's integrated peak area corresponds to their relative abundance. AUFS is given as a number ranging from 0 to 1, where a measurement of 1 AUFS indicates an absorbance reading of 1 at full deflection.

On March 15, OSFI took permanent control of the bank and announced it would restructure SVB Canada to a new bridge bank to be created by the FDIC, after the regulator was unable to find a buyer. An initial auction of Silicon Valley Bank assets on March 12 attracted a single bid that was not from a bank, after PNC Financial Services and RBC Bank backed away from making offers. Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase, and Goldman Sachs all declined to make offers. The FDIC canceled the auction, scheduling a second to attract bids from major banks, after the systemic risk exception was granted. Mayopoulos urged venture capitalists and startups to keep their deposits in the bridge bank, apparently to improve its financial condition, and suggested that customers return some of the deposits they had recently pulled out of the bank as part of a diversification strategy. A group of venture capitalists called for depositors to keep at least half of their capital in the bank. The seizure of Silicon Valley Bank's assets severely disrupted SVB Financial Group's operations. The holding company was locked out of its Santa Clara headquarters, which were shared with the bank, forcing it to move its headquarters to its New York City offices. The holding company, bridge bank, and FDIC are discussing how to reorganize payroll systems. All of SVB Financial Group's employees have been on the payroll of Silicon Valley Bank, not SVB Financial Group, while the parent company has been providing employee benefits to all Silicon Valley Bank employees.

=== Swallowing === Food is ingested through the mouth and when swallowed passes first into the pharynx and then into the esophagus. The esophagus is thus one of the first components of the digestive system and the gastrointestinal tract. After food passes through the esophagus, it enters the stomach. When food is being swallowed, the epiglottis moves backward to cover the larynx, preventing food from entering the trachea. At the same time, the upper esophageal sphincter relaxes, allowing a food bolus to enter. Peristaltic contractions of the esophageal muscle push the food down the esophagus. These rhythmic contractions occur both as a reflex response to food that is in the mouth, and also as a response to the sensation of food within the esophagus itself. Along with peristalsis, the lower esophageal sphincter relaxes.
Crush syndrome (also traumatic rhabdomyolysis, Bywaters' syndrome, or smiling death) is a medical condition characterized by major shock and kidney failure after a crushing injury to skeletal muscle. It should not be confused with crush injury, which is the compression of the arms, legs, or other parts of the body that causes muscle swelling and/or neurological disturbances in the affected areas of the body, while crush syndrome is a localized crush injury with systemic manifestations. Cases occur commonly in catastrophes such as earthquakes, to individuals who have been trapped under fallen or moving masonry. People with crushing damage present some of the greatest challenges in field medicine, and may need a physician's attention on the site of their injury. Appropriate physiological preparation of the injured is mandatory. It may be possible to free the patient without amputation; however, field amputations may be necessary in drastic situations.
Though it can be said that Zhivkov created such proposal as a bargaining chip to secure financial and economic support in consolidating his rule, rather than as a genuine plan for union. During the Soviet–Afghan War, the Chicago Tribune interviewed a defector who claimed that the Soviet Union proposed to annex Northern Afghanistan as its 16th union republic, to be called the "Afghan Soviet Socialist Republic."
Hydrogen has the most frequently imaged nucleus in MRI because it is present in biological tissues in great abundance, and because its high gyromagnetic ratio gives a strong signal. However, any nucleus with a net nuclear spin could potentially be imaged with MRI. Such nuclei include deuterium, helium-3, lithium-7, carbon-13, fluorine-19, oxygen-17, sodium-23, phosphorus-31 and xenon-129. 2H, 23Na and 31P are naturally abundant in the body, so they can be imaged directly. Naturally abundant deuterium at the concentration of around 15mM can be imaged, but suffers from low gamma sensitivity and quadripolar Relaxation (NMR). Deuterium imaging however has a sparse chemical shift spectrum making it possible to develop tailored multiband selective RF pulses for metabolite selective imaging. Thus, metabolic imaging, similar to what's done with Carbon-13 is possible with Deuterium metabolic imaging (DMI) for insights into vivo metabolic processes. As well, the short T2 of deuterium allows it to be signal averaged rapidly, making up for some of its physical shortcomings. Gaseous isotopes such as 3He or 129Xe must be hyperpolarized and then inhaled as their nuclear density is too low to yield a useful signal under normal conditions. 17O and 19F can be administered in sufficient quantities in liquid form (e.g. 17O-water) that hyperpolarization is not a necessity. Using helium or xenon has the advantage of reduced background noise, and therefore increased contrast for the image itself, because these elements are not normally present in biological tissues.

No. It is a peptide that acts upstream of growth hormone release, while growth hormone is the hormone itself. The two differ in size, in receptor, and in how the body clears them.
It blocks the amino-terminal degradation step that limits native GHRH. The addition extends how long the peptide survives in plasma without removing its ability to activate the receptor.
The chain contains 44 amino acid residues. It matches the human GHRH(1-44) sequence apart from the amino-terminal modification.
